AI Governance for Canadian Law Firms

Adopt AI in a way that survives scrutiny —
from a client, from opposing counsel, and
from a regulator.

Founding Reviewers

The Canadian Solo Lawyer & Small Firm AI Operations Toolkit is an eight-document operational kit that shows Canadian lawyers how to use generative AI without breaching their duties of competence, confidentiality, and candour — every practice direction, rule, and statute in it verified against Canadian authority: FLSC Model Code commentary, provincial law society guidance, court and tribunal AI practice directions, PIPEDA, and the provincial privacy statutes.

Five founding reviewer copies are open at $97 CAD, each including a direct line to the author, a named credit, and Version 3 free — your practice notes shape it.

After those five, the first 50 copies are $497; list price is $737.

  • The Canadian AI Operations Playbook, Version 2 — the core book: 19 sections across five Parts, four reference appendices (A–D), and a ten-form library (Appendix E)|

  • AI Vendor Due Diligence Questionnaire (v2) — with status fields, residual risk legend, and sign-off block

  • AI Readiness Checklist — where your practice stands before you adopt anything

  • Do Not Use AI For This Checklist — the bright lines, printable and pinnable

  • AI Use Policy Template — a firm policy you can adapt and adopt this week

  • Prompt Library for Solo Lawyers (v1.2) — tested prompts for daily practice tasks, de-identification built in

  • 30-Day AI Rollout Plan — day-by-day implementation, from policy to logged workflows

  • AI Strategy Consultant Interview Scorecard — how to evaluate anyone you hire to help

Why AI Governance for
Canadian Law Firms Is Different

Charles Austin Klein, AI governance advisor for Canadian law firms — illustrated portrait

Hi, I'm Charles Austin Klein. My approach comes from nine years in aviation as a lead cabin crew member and trainer.

In the cabin, I learned that safety and accountability don't come from a manual on a shelf. They come from disciplined checklists, clear escalation, and the judgment to make sound decisions under pressure. That combination of precision and human judgment is the foundation of everything I do today.

AI governance for a law firm is not the same as AI governance for any other business. Solicitor-client privilege, your law society's rules on competence and confidentiality, and Canadian data-residency expectations create an environment that generic AI consultants simply aren't built for. A policy written for a marketing agency won't survive contact with a file audit.

I work with Canadian solo and small-firm lawyers to build the operational layer underneath the policy: workflows that satisfy your law society's guidance, controls that keep client information where it belongs, and a record showing that professional review actually occurred.

The work is grounded in the obligations you already carry — Alberta and BC privacy legislation, PIPEDA where information crosses borders, and your law society's guidance — not in vendor enthusiasm. I don't sell software. If a tool is wrong for your practice, I'll say so.

My goal is straightforward: help you build the infrastructure that makes AI adoption a defensible, standard part of your practice.
